Ba'al Shem Tov, Mishpatim 6/בעל שם טוב על התורה·
אאל תשת ידך עם רשע להיות עד חמס. היינו שלא לדבר רע על שום אחד מישראל ח"ו, כי על ידי זה יצטרך להיות עד חמס, כשמקטרג הרשע זה היצר הרע, ויביא אותו לעדות על דבריו ולכן גם כשיצטרך לגנות איזה מדה רעה, ולדבר מאיזה אדם רשע, יאמר בפירוש שאינו מדבר על עצם האדם רק על המדה הרעה, וכמו שאירע למרן הבעל שם טוב הקדוש:
