1These are the generations of Isaac, the son of Abraham. Abraham gave birth to Isaac. (Genesis 25:19)This verse contains a question and its answer. The question is, how did Isaac, who represents the forces of limitation, come from Abraham, who is the aspect of loving-kindness.25 The answer is “Abraham gave birth to Isaac.” That is, the forces of limitation derive from those of loving-kindness, in order that there should be concealment in the world. Because when one person lacks something and another person gives it to him, the world becomes founded on loving-kindness, as the verse says: “You have built a world of love” (Psalms 89:3). This draws down forces of loving-kindness into the world.Mevaser Tzedek, Behar
