אאבק ועפר. ברוב החורב וכח הרוחות:

1POWDER AND DUST. Because of the great dryness and the power of the winds.³⁶

בעד השמדך. מלה זרה כמו ביום הבראך:

2UNTIL THOU BE DESTROYED. Hishamedakh (thou be destroyed) is irregular.³⁷ rather than with a sheva beneath the mem and a kamatz beneath the kaf; i.e., compare the word hishamedkha in verse 20. Compare, hibbare’akh³⁸ (in the day that thou wast created) (Ezek. 28:15).³⁹ (thou be destroyed) and hibbare’akh are similarly vocalized. Some editions read, be-yom hibbare’akh (from the day that thou wast created) (Ezek. 28:15).
