Ibn Ezra on Leviticus 26:34/אבן עזרא על ויקרא כ״ו:ל״ד
אאז תרצה הארץ וזאת המלה כמו תשלי׳ וכן עד ירצה כשכיר יומו כי נרצה עונה:
1The word tirtzeh means pay. Compare, Till he shall accomplish117 (yirtzeh), as a hireling, his day (Job 14:6); That her guilt is paid off (nirtzah) (Is. 40:2).
בשבתותיה. שמיטות ויובלים וכן כתוב עד רצתה הארץ את שבתותיה ושם פירשתיו:
2HER SABBATHS. Sabbatical years and Jubilees. It is similarly written, until the land had been paid her sabbaths (II Chron. 36:21). I have explained it there.118
גהשמה. שם ומשקלי השמות משתנים:
3DESOLATE. Hashammah (desolate) is a noun. The forms of the nouns change.119 (Ex.23:19); shamah (Jer. 51:37).
דוטעם כל ימי השמה ואתם בארץ אויביכם. שתהיה שממה מכם אז תשבת ותמצא מנוחה למלא׳ שבתותיה:
4The meaning of as long as it lieth desolate, and ye are in your enemies’ land is that the land will be desolate, for you will not inhabit it. Then the land will not be worked and it will find rest and complete its Sabbaths.
