Sforno on Numbers 20:18/ספורנו על במדבר כ׳:י״ח
אפֶּן בַּחֶרֶב אֵצֵא לִקְרָאתֶךָ. כִּי הֲמוֹן עַם אֱדוֹם אַנְשֵׁי דָמִים, וּבְסִבָּה מוּעֶטֶת מִמְּרִיבָה אוֹ זוּלָתָהּ שֶׁתִּפּוֹל בֵּין אַנְשֵׁי הָאָרֶץ וְהָעָם הָעוֹבֵר, יִתְעוֹרְרוּ אַנְשֵׁי הָאָרֶץ בַּחֶרֶב נֶגֶד הָעוֹבְרִים.
1פן בחרב אצא לקראתך, most of the people of Edom were bloodthirsty people and did not need more than the slightest pretext in order to start a war.
