Ibn Ezra on Exodus 13:16/אבן עזרא על שמות י״ג:ט״ז

אוהיה. הזכיר על שתי המצוות והיה לאות על ידכה, ומה שהעתיקו חז"ל לכתוב הפרשיות הוא האמת:

1AND IT SHALL BE FOR A SIGN. Scripture mentions, And it shall be for a sign upon thy hand with regard to two commandments.⁶⁰ That which the sages of blessed memory transmitted, namely, that the chapters⁶¹ are to be written,⁶² is true.

בולטוטפת. כמו זכרון, ויש אומרים כי הטי"ת כפול ופי' כמו דבר, מגזרת והטף אל דרום (יחז' כא ב) והוא רחוק בעיני:

2AND FOR FRONTLETS. Totafot (frontlets) means a memorial.⁶³ (memorial) in place of totafot (frontlets). Others say⁶⁴ that the tet of totafot⁶⁵. is doubled,⁶⁶. Menachem believed that Hebrew words come from a two-letter root its meaning being to speak. They say that it comes from the same root as ve-hettef (and preach) in and preach toward the south (Ezek. 21:2). However, in my opinion this is far-fetched.⁶⁷ comes from the root nun, tet, peh whereas totafot comes from the root tet, tet, peh (Krinsky).
