Ibn Ezra on Exodus 9:22/אבן עזרא על שמות ט׳:כ״ב
אויאמר. מדרך סברה יראה כי נטיית ידו במטה היתה, והנה כתוב אחריו "ויט משה את מטהו על השמים", הוא האויר וכמוהו על פני רקיע השמים (ברא' א):
1AND THE LORD SAID. From a strictly logical point of view it appears that the stretching forth of his hand was with his rod.79, he meant stretch forth thy rod with thy hand (Krinsky). Behold, it is written afterwards, And Moses stretched forth his rod toward heaven,80, He meant stretch forth thy rod with thy hand toward heaven. that is, in the air above.
