1AND IT SHALL BECOME. This was miraculous, that this small amount of soot turned into dust all over the land of Egypt. This plague did not separate out the Israelites.40
2BLAINS. The alef of avabu’ot (blains) is superfluous, as avabu’ot comes from the same root as tiveh (to boil)41. in And the fire causeth the waters to boil (Is. 64:1). The word is doubled42 drops out and the bet and ayin are doubled, forming the apparently quadriliteral avabu’ot. like the words teshasha’u (shall be dandled)43. However, the heh drops out and the shin and ayin are doubled, forming the apparently quadriliteral teshasha’u. (Is. 66:12) and tesagsegi44. However, the heh drops out and the sin and gimel are doubled, forming the quadriliteral root sin, gimel, sin, gimel (Krinsky). (thou didst make it to grow) (Is. 17:11).
