Ibn Ezra on Leviticus 19:13/
1THOU SHALT NOT OPPRESS THY NEIGHBOR. In secret.
2NOR ROB HIM. Openly by the use of force.
3THE WAGES. Pe’ulat means the wages of.48 literally means labor of. Hence I.E.’s comment. Compare, Behold, His reward (u-fe’ulato) is with Him (Is. 40:10). It is possible that Scripture is elliptical and that pe’ulat is short for sekhar pe’ulato (the wages of his labor). Many say that Scripture speaks of a person hired for the day.49 One is not permitted to tell him to work the next morning and in the morning say I will pay you for two days’ work. The transmitters of tradition50 61a. say that our verse51 refers to someone hired for a day,52 for the sun is not permitted to set on a worker53 who is hired for the night.54
