Ibn Ezra on Numbers 21:6/אבן עזרא על במדבר כ״א:ו׳
אוישלח וגו' השרפים. שם תאר הנחשים ודרך דרש אם ישך הנחש בלא לחש ואין יתרון לבעל הלשון והם שלחו לשונם לנשוך כן שולח בהם:
1AND THE LORD…SERPENTS. The word ha-serafim (fiery) is an adjective. The following is a midrashic interpretation. Scripture states, If the serpent bite before it is charmed, Then the charmer hath no advantage (Eccles. 10:11). These people21 sent their tongues to bite.22 They were repaid with snakes being sent against them.
