אכִּי אִם יִהְיֶה לְבָעֵר וְגוֹ׳. פֵּרוּשׁ, נִסְתַּכֵּל בַּקּוֹרוֹת אֲשֶׁר יְכוֹלִין לְהַגִּיעוֹ לְקֵינִי, וְאָמַר ״עַד מָה״, פֵּרוּשׁ, עַד מָה יִהְיֶה שִׁעוּר אֲשֶׁר תָּבֹאנָה עָלָיו מֵהַצָּרוֹת, אַשּׁוּר תִּשְׁבֶּךָּ פֵּרוּשׁ, שֶׁיִּשְׁלֹט עָלָיו אַשּׁוּר שֶׁהוּא סַנְחֵרִיב וְיוֹלִיכֶנּוּ בַּשִּׁבְיָה.
1 כי אם יהיה לבער, "how long before it will burn?" Bileam trains his mind's eye on what will befall the Kenite saying: "how long will it be until even the Kenite will burn?" אשור תשבך, "Ashur will take you into captivity." This is a reference to Sancheriv king of the Assyrians taking the Kenite into captivity.
