Ramban on Genesis 8:9/רמב"ן על בראשית ח׳:ט׳
אוְלֹא מָצְאָה הַיּוֹנָה מָנוֹחַ אֵין מִנְהַג הָעוֹפוֹת לָנוּחַ בְּרָאשֵׁי הֶהָרִים הַגְּבוֹהִים עַל הָאָרֶץ וְאֵין אִילָן שָׁם, אַף כִּי בִּהְיוֹת הַמַּיִם עַל פְּנֵי כָל הָאָרֶץ, וְלָכֵן לֹא מָצְאָה הַיּוֹנָה מָנוֹחַ אֲשֶׁר יִיטַב לָהּ, וּבְעֵת הֵרָאוֹת הָאִילָנוֹת הָלְכָה לְנַפְשָׁהּ כִּי בְּדָלִיּוֹתֵיהֶם תְּקַנֵּנָּה:
1AND THE DOVE FOUND NO REST. It is not customary for fowl to rest on the tops of the high mountains on the earth which are bare of trees and surely not when the waters were on the face of the whole earth. Therefore, the dove found no rest suitable for her. But as soon as she saw the trees she went her own way155 for in their branches she would build her nest.
