Sforno on Genesis 8:21/ספורנו על בראשית ח׳:כ״א
אאֶת רֵיחַ הַנִּיחֹחַ. שֶׁהָיָה אָז רָאוּי לְהַקְרָבָה.
בוַיֹּאמֶר ה' אֶל לִבּוֹ. שֶׁלֹּא גִּלָּה לְנֹחַ וּלְבָנָיו עַד שֶׁקִּבְּלוּ מִצְווֹתָיו וְהֵקִים בְּרִית.
2In His heart. He did not reveal this resolution to Noach and his sons until after they had accepted His commandments and He established His covenant with them.
גכִּי יֵצֶר לֵב הָאָדָם רַע. כִּי בִּהְיוֹת הַמְּזָגִים מִכָּאן וָאֵילָךְ פְּחוּתִים מֵאֲשֶׁר הָיוּ קֹדֶם הַמַּבּוּל, לֹא יָאִיר בָּהֶם הַכֹּחַ הַשִּׂכְלִי מִנְּעוּרֵיהֶם כְּבָרִאשׁוֹנָה, בְּאֹפֶן שֶׁיִּתְקוֹמֵם לַמִּתְאַוֶּה הַמִּתְגַּבֵּר עָלָיו מִנְּעוּרָיו.
3For the inclination of man’s heart. Human makeup was now inferior to what it was before the flood and the intellect no longer held sway during the years of youth. This enabled the appetites to achieve domination
