Ibn Ezra on Exodus 22:14/
1IF THE OWNER THEREOF BE WITH IT. If the owner himself saw how the animal was hurt or died.36 The same law applies to a hired animal accompanied on the way by its lessee and lessor.37 (if it be a hireling he loseth his hire) as: if a hired animal, while being accompanied by its lessee and lessor, was hurt or died, the lessee is not obligated to pay. See Weiser. See also Rashi who interprets differently. Scripture concludes its dealing with theft of property and proceeds to discuss theft of confidence namely, seduction, for we often find men seducing young women of immature mind.38
