Ibn Ezra on Exodus 22:7/
1WHETHER HE HAVE NOT PUT HIS HAND UNTO HIS NEIGHBOR’S GOODS. This indicates that then the master of the house shall come near unto God refers to an oath sworn before judges.24 indicates an oath; i.e., then the master of the house shall come near unto God…[and shall swear] whether he have not put his hand unto his neighbor’s goods. So too Rashi. Hence, For every matter of trespass (v. 8) follows. This means that the one who swore sinned.25 Rabbi Joshua says that pesha (trespass) means that it went out of the owner’s possession, as in “Then did Edom revolt from under the hand of Judah.”26 (II Kings 8:22). For every matter of trespass (v. 8) includes everything that follows27 and everything28 that passes out of the owner’s possession,29. whether stolen30. or lost,31 with the finder denying and not admitting that he found it.
