Ibn Ezra on Exodus 3:12/
1AND HE SAID: CERTAINLY I WILL BE WITH THEE. Now go to Pharaoh and bring out the children of Israel and behold, I have given you a token92 that I have sent you. The reason they are being brought out of Egypt is that they should serve Me on this mountain where I have shown you this great wonder.93 It is thus written, (I am the Lord)…that brought you out of the land of Egypt, to be your God (Lev. 22:23). Moses similarly said to Pharaoh, We will go three days’ journey into the wilderness, and sacrifice to the Lord our God (Ex. 8:23)94 because the latter is the walking distance between eastern Egypt and Mount Sinai.95 However, when Israel left Egypt they did not go there via the land of the Philistines.96, this contradicts I.E.’s assertion that Ex. 8:23 refers to a request to go to Mount Sinai. I.E. answers that it took Israel three months to reach Sinai because they did not take a direct route. Furthermore, Israel, as I will explain, dwelt in one place for many days.97 It is precisely this98. that Moses spoke of when he wrote, and (Moses) builded an altar under the mount…and…offered burnt offerings and sacrificed peace offerings (Ex. 24:4, 5). He then made a covenant with Israel that they be a people unto the Lord and that the Lord be their God.99. 38. Our texts read, “and the Lord be your God.”
