אובהעטיף הצאן. הם בימי תשרי, ולזה עשה יעקב שלא ירגיש לבן בדבר המקלות:
1BUT WHEN THE FLOCK WERE FEEBLE. In the month of Tishri.82 Jacob did this so that Laban would not know that he was employing the sticks to produce spotted goats.83
בהעטופים. שאין כח בהם כמו "נפשם בהם תתעטף" (תהלים קז ה):
2FEEBLE. Atufim means feeble; compare, Their soul fainted (titattaf) in them (Ps. 107:5).
