Ibn Ezra on Genesis 37:33/אבן עזרא על בראשית ל״ז:ל״ג
אטרף טרף. פועל שלא נזכר שם פועלו ובא כן בעבור הרי"ש שלא ידגש, וכן "ומורק ושוטף" (ויקרא ו כא):
1WITHOUT DOUBT TORN IN PIECES. Toraf (torn) is a pu’al. The tet is vocalized with a cholam49 as is the rule in the pu’al. Hence the reading toraf rather than turaf. because it precedes a resh which cannot receive a dagesh.50 receive a dagesh. However, the resh cannot receive a dagesh; thus the preceding vowel changes from a kubbutz to a cholam. Morak51, and because the middle letter is a resh the preceding letter is vocalized with a cholam. (scoured) in it shall be scoured (u-morek), and rinsed in water (Lev. 6:21) is similar.
