Ramban on Leviticus 21:6/רמב"ן על ויקרא כ״א:ו׳
אקְדֹשִׁים יִהְיוּ לֵאלֹהֵיהֶם הַקְּדֻשָּׁה הִיא הַפְּרִישׁוּת, כַּאֲשֶׁר פֵּרַשְׁתִּי בְּסֵדֶר שֶׁל מַעְלָה (רמב"ן על ויקרא י"ט:ב'), יֹאמַר שֶׁאֲפִלּוּ בַּמֻּתָּר לְיִשְׂרָאֵל יִהְיוּ הַכֹּהֲנִים פְּרוּשִׁים, יִבָּדְלוּ מִטֻּמְאַת הַמֵּתִים וְנִשּׂוּאֵי הַנָּשִׁים שֶׁאֵינָן הֲגוּנוֹת לָהֶם בְּטַהֲרָה וּבִנְקִיּוּת:
1THEY SHALL BE HOLY UNTO THEIR G-D. Holiness signifies separateness, as I have explained in the section above.24. Scripture is thus stating that even in those things which are permissible to Israelites, the priests should exercise self-control, avoiding the impurity of the dead, and marrying of women who are unfit for them in purity and cleanliness.
