Sforno on Genesis 35:5/ספורנו על בראשית ל״ה:ה׳
אוַיִּסָּעוּ וַיְהִי חִתַּת אֱלֹהִים. כִּי בְּנָסְעָם מִשְּׁכֶם שֶׁהָיְתָה עִיר מִבְצָר, הָיְתָה סַכָּנָה שֶׁיִּתְקוֹמְמוּ הַסְּבִיבוֹת עֲלֵיהֶם בַּדֶּרֶךְ, וְלָכֵן הֻצְרַךְ אָז שֶׁתִּהְיֶה חִתַּת אֱלֹהִים עֲלֵיהֶם.
1They began their journey. As long as they were behind the walls of Shechem they were safe, but now they were in need of the “terror of Elokim”.
