Ibn Ezra on Exodus 21:34/אבן עזרא על שמות כ״א:ל״ד

אבעל הבור. הפותח או הכורה, אעפ"י שהוא ברשות הרבים כי לצרכו עשה, ע"כ נקרא בעל הבור:

1THE OWNER OF THE PIT. The one who opened it or the one who dug it. This is the law even though the pit is on public property.²⁹⁵ He made it for his use; therefore he is called the owner of the pit.

בכסף ישיב לבעליו. שיתן דמי הנופל בהיותו חי אחר שיפחות ממנו דמי המת:

2HE SHALL GIVE MONEY. He shall pay what the fallen animal was worth when alive after deducting the value of the carcass.
