Ibn Ezra on Deuteronomy 32:21/
1THEY HAVE ROUSED ME. The second root letter231 of kinuni. Kinuni is a pi’el, and pi’els have a dagesh in their middle root letters. Hence I.E.’s comment. has no dagesh in order to simplify enunciation.
2WITH A NO-GOD. Its meaning is, a god that has no power to deliver.232 means powerful. Hence I.E.’s comment.
3WITH THEIR VANITIES. Rather than with something which truly exists.
4I WILL ROUSE THEM. Akni’em (I will rouse them) is a hifil. It describes two actions.233 is the causative form. It refers to what one does and to the object that one acts upon.
5WITH A NO-PEOPLE. A nation who are not My people. Scripture describes how God shall anger them.234 in place of yakhnisem (Vat. Ebr. 38). It means God shall punish Israel by doing things to them which will upset them. He will bring upon Israel, upon Israel alone, unique troubles which surpass the adversity that he brought upon all others.
6A VILE NATION. For a fool and a vile person lack understanding. He therefore kills and has no pity.
