Ibn Ezra on Exodus 17:5/אבן עזרא על שמות י״ז:ה׳
אויאמר. יש אומרים בעבור שאמר עוד מעט וסקלוני, אמר לו השם עבור לפני העם המריבים עמך להודיע כי מים תתן להם עתה:
1AND THE LORD SAID. Some say that because Moses said, they are almost ready to stone me, God told him, Pass on before the people who strive with you and inform them that you will now give them water.16 is short for: pass on before the people who strive with you, etc.
בוקח אתך מזקני ישראל. ומטך אשר הכית בו, בצווי:
2AND TAKE WITH THEE OF THE ELDERS OF ISRAEL; AND THY ROD, WHEREWITH THOU SMOTEST THE RIVER. By command.17
