Ibn Ezra on Exodus 18:15/אבן עזרא על שמות י״ח:ט״ו
אויאמר. השיב משה אני עושה שני דברים, האחד כי יבא אלי העם לדרוש אלהים, והטעם לדרוש תורתו, והדבר השני, כי יהיה להם דבר בא אלי והשיב על האחרון תחלה ושפטתי בין איש ובין רעהו, והודעתי את חקי האלהים לדורש:
1AND MOSES SAID. Moses answered, I do two things. One, Because the people come unto me to inquire of God, that is, to inquire of God’s law.178 is short for, to inquire of God’s law. The other, when they have a matter, it cometh unto me (v. 16). Moses explained the second task first, namely, and I judge between a man and his neighbor (ibid.); and, he then said,179 to one who inquires, I make them know the statutes of God.
