Ibn Ezra on Exodus 18:2/אבן עזרא על שמות י״ח:ב׳
אויקח. אמר הכתוב אשת משה, ולא אמר בתו, בעבור כי משה נכבד מבית אביה:
1AND JETHRO TOOK. Scripture reads, Moses’ wife, and not Jethro’s daughter, because Moses was more important than her father’s house.46
באחר שלוחיה. י"א אחר שנתן לה רשות במלון ללכת לבית אביה בשובו לבדו אל ארץ מצרים ויש אומרים אחר ששלחה דורונת אליו כמו שלוחים לבתו (מ"א ט טז):
2AFTER HE HAD SENT HER AWAY. Some say that Moses gave her permission to return to her father’s house, at the lodging place, prior to his returning alone to Egypt.47 Other say she sent gifts to Moses.48 (after he had sent her away) should be rendered as: after her gifts, i.e., after she had sent him gifts. See Rashbam on this verse. Compare, shilluchim (gifts) in gifts unto his daughter (I Kings 9:16).49
