Ibn Ezra on Exodus 18:4/
1AND THE NAME OF THE OTHER84 WAS. It is the custom in Hebrew to say, “This is how the second one was called.”85 At other times it uses the term “the one,” as in86 and the name of one was Bozez, and the name of the other was Seneh (I Sam. 14:4).87
2[FOR THE GOD OF MY FATHER WAS MY HELP.] The word amar (he said), which should have followed the word ki (for), has been omitted in for the God of my father. Scripture does not read, “for he said the God of my father was my help” because the phrase refers to for he said: I have been a stranger (v. 3), which is written above.88 in verse 3 also applies to verse 4. It is similar to for God hath made me fruitful (Gen. 41:52).89 is missing. See I.E. on Gen. 41:52. I have already explained why Moses named his younger son Eliezer.90
