Ibn Ezra on Exodus 18:12/אבן עזרא על שמות י״ח:י״ב
אויקח עולה וזבחים. הם השלמים:
1AND JETHRO, MOSES’ FATHER-IN-LAW, TOOK A BURNT-OFFERING AND SACRIFICES. The latter refers to peace-offerings.161 (sacrifices) usually refers to peaceofferings (Weiser).
בוטעם לאלהים, כי עתה יחל להיות לו השם הנכבד לאלהים:
2[FOR GOD.] The meaning of for God is that henceforth the revered Lord shall be his God.
גויבא אהרן וכל זקני ישראל. ואין צורך להזכיר משה כי באהלו היו:
3AND AARON CAME, AND ALL THE ELDERS OF ISRAEL. There is no need to mention Moses, as they were in Moses’ tent.
דלאכל לחם. שלמים:
4TO EAT BREAD. Peaceofferings.
הוטעם לפני האלהים. כי אהל משה היה לצד מזרח אהל מועד:
5[BEFORE GOD.] Scripture reads thus because Moses’ tent was on the east side of the tabernacle.162
